Well its here again...

So UKS has given in and has announced its long awaited by a very few cybercrop.

I've been for a look, inadvertently clicked on what I thought was a forum with details of how to register and I've found myself in the Totos. What a pity for them as they now have one member who has no intention of doing anything, although from the comments made on the last thread, the Tin Men, will have a few less members than they may think.

I don't see what all the fuss is about. I see one team has progressed from passing cyber drinks round to sharing cyber full English breakfasts while they wait for more details. Do grown women really have so little else going on in their lives that they want to spend all day and most of the night preparing for a weekend of speed scrapping, producing rushed work just to claim a few points for their team?

Well, I for one intend to stay well away. I have a real life crop on the Saturday where I shall sit and do a few layouts in my own time, drool over everyone else's new toys and drink lots of cups of real tea and eat real chocolate cake. Any of you care to join me?

well thank goodness for that!

I'm another Tin Man mistake!

Anyone care to share info on why TJ has put people off?

I'm a kind of newbie, I joined UKS a couple of years back but have never been part of a team or CC. I have been thinking of joining in more but have been worried a bit because of what I've read here.

Anonymous said...

Another off to a real crop that weekend - although I might try one of the classes if I like the look/sound of it.

Anonymous said...

Not quite sure why people are clicking on Cybercrop Registration and not expecting to be registered!!! All the information you can possibly need to know is in the 'help and information' sub forum. The clue is in the title!!!

{s}crap happens! said...

even though i plan to join in on the cc, non of my work will be rushed or spoilt just for a few points.
its all abit of fun and i really cant understand why peeps do take it so seriously or why peeps slag it off so much.
i for one enjoy it but i dont take it seriously,it wont take over my weekend thats for sure,i will be hubby and kiddies free, but i do have other things planned other than sitting in front of this pooter waiting for the next class to go live.

Anonymous said...

It is a lot more easy to register by mistake this year... If you go onto UKS and normally arrive on the forums page and then click on the third line down which is normally General Scrapping you register for the CC. I know 3 people who have done that. Normally the CC is at the very top of the forum page.

Anonymous said...

I love the people who are panicking because they accidentally registered. What do they think is going to happen if they don't take part in the CC and chat on the forum, the cybercrop police are going to come and bang down their door, insisting they take part? So you're registered, big deal, don't panic!

That's exactly what I did. Had / have no intention of joining in, I should have clicked more carefully!

I registered (Toto) because I enjoy the classes and perhaps the chance of learning something new. I'm in a Team and most of my team-mates have also registered. Some of them love the cyber crop more than others.

Last time I did follow the CC chat because I was unemployed and frankly I didn't have much to do at the time, but I won't be doing that this time round.

However, I've not bought the Mystery Kit because the one I bought for the last CC was rubbish and not worth the money compared to what another team had. I won't be buying any class kits either.

When the weekend comes round I will see what classes appear and if I like them, I'll do them, but I won't be rushing them. If they're worth doing they're worth not rushing over. The first time I did a CC I ended up with a pile of dreadful layouts because they were rushed.

Lesson learnt.

Anonymous said...

so who's mystery kit was rubbish last year then ? although a bit too late since I have ordered mine now

Anonymous said...

Never have, nor ever will have any intention of doing a CC.
Its just not my thing. I can't scrap to order, & i'm not interested in the team thing.
I was in a team once upon a time, but found it very boring, & to be honest i wasn't really interested in what the other team members had to say,
So i made my excuses & left. Now i'm just a loner who hangs around UKS doing my own thing! :-]

But what other people do is up to them, if they enjoy taking part in the CC, then good luck to them.

Live & let live i say.

Anonymous said...

UKSS. Why don't you start to deal with your own problems before you start to make trouble for the CC you sad moronic bitch.

Anonymous said...

Just saw this across the home page, which means it's in the layout gallery.
Anyone guess why? Is it a layout? Is this what scrapbooking is all about now?

http://www.ukscrappers.co.uk/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=201182

Oh and lay off UKSS whatever problems she has are probably no more or less than any of us, and this blog is perfectly all about events like cybercrops. You're on here, so you must have thought there was something worth reading.

The more I look at the Studio Calico kit the more I want one. Does anyone get it, how much does it cost in total, including shipping and have you had any problems.
I loved what Kirsty did with it every month, that is a style I would love to have. And before you bash her, each to their own, I can't do this many layered distressed flowery torn painted thing, takes forever apart from not suiting my pics.
Haven't spotted a UK kit with similar stuff in- so, would you buy it?

Anonymous said...

Not your garbage, that's for sure. You are pathetic. As is UKSS. There's something twisted about a woman who incites nastiness and negativity.

I'm taking part in a different online crop for charity that weekend. I did the last uks cc and it was dreadful. The one I've found seems more civilised, less people, and sounds like they have decent prizes. Plus it's for a good cause. A no brainer really.

Anonymous said...

Anyone discovered any new talent lately on uks? I have recently noticed Cayliehotpants and Sunday. Lovely work and worth a look.

Why am I pathetic for finding something not to my taste in the gallery, and for pointing out that we all have problems? Sounds to me like you've been bashed. TJ are you?

Is there not something twisted about you for coming on here and calling people pathetic?

Smack blogs exist in every board room, staff room, and everywhere people congregate. Would you blame the MD, the headmaster, the senior consultant or whoever?

As we say, don't like it? then run along and play.

*The more I look at the Studio Calico kit the more I want one. Does anyone get it, how much does it cost in total, including shipping and have you had any problems*.

ive been getting the SC kits for nearly 2 years now and i wouldnt swap them for anything. ive tried a few kit clubs and for me this is the one that makes me think out of the box so to speak.
there has not been one kit that i havent enjoyed working with.

the total kit each month {without add ons} is $46 {£33 approx}a month, that is $16 postage included in that. if you buy add ons aswell they will ship free with your kit.

ive never had any problems with the customer service or the kits themselves.

*I'm taking part in a different online crop for charity that weekend*.

ill be dabbling in a charity one aswell that weekend.

SCRAP HAPPENS, what do they put on the box from Studio Calico? Do you ever get caught in customs? I get unity stamps and they don't get caught unless you have extras which bump it up. I don't expect anyone to break the law for me, but as we know, it's Royal Mail who screw it up for us this end.
Thanks for answering, btw, and we 'know' each other only I'm not as brave as you to declare myself on here.

WeirdCat said...

Is it Royal Mail? I thought it was Customs and Excise and the exchange rate that lead to a lot of people dropping the US kits especially Studio Calico as they are the high end of the market

Anonymous said...

^^^ I think you will find it is the government who "screw it up". HM Customs decide which items to surcharge, not Royal Mail.

ive not been caught at customs {yet lol} i have ordered all the add ons before and been fine.
they put the price of the kit on the box, they dont put gift etc.
i think its the luck of the draw sometimes of whether customs will sting you or not.

do we know each other? lol. im intrigued now.
the only reason i dont go annon is because if i have an opinion on something i will just say it as it is iykwim. if peeps dont like what i say they can either slap me or ignore me lol.

MrsScissors said...

~Is it Royal Mail? I thought it was Customs and Excise and the exchange rate that lead to a lot of people dropping the US kits especially Studio Calico as they are the high end of the market~

Yes it is Customs and Excise, but it's also RM in addition. From the HMRevenue & Customs site:

"Royal Mail, Parcelforce Worldwide and Fast Parcel Operators may charge you for processing your package through Customs. These charges are normally collected together with any duty/taxes on delivery but they are not Customs duties. If you need to know the exact cost of these extra charges in advance, you should contact the seller and ask which carrier they will be using to send your goods. You can then contact the carrier and ask what their charges will be."

I think the RM charge is currently £8 for handling on top of the duty/VAT payable.

Anonymous said...

I think that the RM charge is a lot less than some of the other courier companies. It's just something you need to factor in before you decide if it's worth ordering from abroad. I haven't bought anything from the US in absolutely ages. I used to do it all the time, but I don't think I've had any stuff from overseas for at least 2 years, as it just didn't seem worth it any longer.

Anonymous said...

I haven't either. Buying from America used to be like getting stuff half price but with the exchange rate now its often not worth it (although if you like a kit price isn't the only reason for buying it)

Similar with customs - Buying 2-3 years ago things didn't get stopped very often but either they've cracked down a bit more or I've been very unlucky as the last 3 things in a row all got charges added (about a year ago) so I've stopped buying.

If the $ goes back to being worth 50p again though I'd definitely still order and just factor in the customs and handling charges

You won't get charged customs or any RM charges if the value of the parcel is £18 or under, which is about $28 with todays exchange rate of about $1.60 to the pound.

Can't say I like it that much myself. It lacks journalling as well - it just says "our little angel - you are three months old here" for those of you who can't read it. I always think that doyleys look best under a cake, not on a scrapbook page.

If doileys are best under a cake, then does that mean buttons should be on clothes, blossoms should be in table decoration, ribbons should be in hair and clothes and patterned paper should be on the wall.
Maybe we should go back to the boring old way of sticking photos in an album, 4 on a page, with those awful sticky plastic covers.

Anonymous said...

to 14:41 - no, I just don't get doyleys on layouts. I was just expressing my oh-so-humble and evidently very flawed opinion of how a doyley could be better used.

Hotel let the Scrapagogo team down food wise but room was lovely, space in crop room depended on which set of tables you were sitting on but you weren't there for long periods unless you didn't do the class! Loved the classes I did, one class I didn't do wasn't very good/not to my taste. all the design team were great, everyone very helpful. Shop was lovely but in a tiny room - bit of a stampede/one way system LOL

So what about Scrap Fever???? lets have the low down :)

ok. So now not looking forward to my MK from ModScraps. What was in it?

I want to smack Create and Craft (should I even admit I sometimes watch it, lol). A bloody 24 hours craft show that have put 'stationary', TWICE in a week. That Sarah bird who does the CD's had 'stationary' actually written on the details on the CD, and when C&C give details of what is in a particular kit, they had Stationary instead of stationery. ffs. Makes them look even more amateur than usual.
I know some peeps will think it is really pedantic, but it just jumps out at me, and it drives me nuts.

Anonymous said...

I'm intrigued as to what is in the indigo mill and ModScraps kits as well.. Anyone want to share?

Anonymous said...

Got my Mod Scraps this evening - a neighbour had it.

3 x Reminisce Autumn Forest Sharing Squirrels, Drifting Leaves, Textured Pear (all double sided)
1 x Sassafras Happy Place - Apple delight (double sided)
3 x Bazzill - red, pickle, pinecone
1 x A4 sheet of sticky backed flocked paper
1 x Crate Paper Little Sprouts rub-ons
1 x Doodlebug Alpha Stickers Loopy Loo (brown)
1 x brown embroidery thread
1m red ribbon
1m green ribbon

I thought it was okay - I've had much worse mystery kits.

I have seen some good classes and some that have made me think WTF???, but there has always been something that has taken my fancy. I don't often bother to rush to finish and upload for points though, tbh I can't see the point in throwing a page or project together in a half arsed way just to get points( I am not saying everyone half arses it either, as to be fair there have been lots of fab pages created in the past) Its just not for me,but I have friends that enjoy every minute of it, so good luck to them. I really REALLY just don't understand all the role play etc that goes on with it and then the inevitable feeling of deflation after the event is all over.....maybe I am missing the point somewhere?

I was actually really disappointed with my Indigo Mill kit - I am not keen or orange and yellow for a start and I don't like corrugated paper either or furry cardstock either! I suppose it is very lionesque but I won't be creating anything to go in the gallery. had a Sarahscard kit last time and really loved it - made loads of stuff and thought it was really good value.

Can't imagine what I will do with it actually - quite like the circular die cut card and the chipboard and gems so will probably use them. Think this was probably reasonable value - just not my colours.

I am a little confused.....I am sure that you birds know that Anam Stubbington recently had a whole bunch of people fundraising for her to generate some pounds in order to stay in Canada since they had a blather that they couldn't afford to keep their tushes there.

Now, it is mentioned on her blog that they are going to England for a holiday to visit with their family..

How can this be? Did she win the lottery or something? Or did her family win the lottery or something? They certainly couldn't afford to help them stay in Canada..so they certainly couldn't afford to help pay for them to fly to England for a holiday for Christmas.

Anyone know what is going on?

Anonymous said...

I think I read on her blog way back when that the trip to england was already on the cards maybe already paid for or booked back before they started fundraising? Not sure tbh and I see what you're saying - it doesn seem a bit of a luxury! But I think she's been honest about it upfront and it's nothing new since the fundraising.

I also believe that the Scottish education system is better than that of England. There are good things and bad things about all the countries that make up the UK however the English are by far the most arrogant in assuming that the word English covers the Welsh, Scottish and Northern Irish and sometimes Souther Irish too

The story of how

God created SCOTLAND

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Story of Scotland.

In the beginning when God was creating the world,
He was sitting on a cloud,
telling his pal the Arch Angel Gabriel
what he planned for Scotland.

" Gabby" says He "I'm going to give this place high majestic mountains, purple glens, soaring eagles, streams laden with salmon, golden fields of barley from which a whisky coloured nectar can be made, green, lush, spectacular golf courses, coal in the ground, oil under the sea,...gas".

" Hold up! Hold up!"

Interjected the bold Gabriel

" Are you not being too generous to these Scots ? "

Back came the Almighty's reply

" Not really, wait until you see the
neighbours I'm giving them !!! "

Anonymous said...

Hmmn you are so right, I read Cals post and thought exactly the same, "typical pompous English thinking".

Nothing at all about someone being moved post about how incredibly brave those that serve in our armed forces are, the horrors they must witness and the absolute nightmare of relatives and partners finding out that someone you love deeply has been injured or worse.
Even if you are just a shit-stirrer you should be ashamed for twisting the meaning of Cal's post.

Anonymous said...

I was moved by the post - just totally shocked and hurt that she only mentioned the English - Scottish, Welsh and Irish people are NOT English. If she meant to include the rest of us why didn't she say British.
My DH is in the RAF and has been in Iraq and Afghanistan - I felt really really hurt that him and rest of his fellow Scots didn't seem important enough to be mentioned.

Anonymous said...

I'm English but lived in Scotland for five years (my Mum moved up there years ago) and I am agape at what some of the English and Scottish people have said on here. England is England and not Britain, and Scotland and Wales are countries in their own right and beautiful ones at that. However, no single one is cleverer or better than any other (admittedly the Scots are bloody good at inventing things, though). It's no wonder the UK is looked down on by other nations when we have attitudes like that about each other.

Anonymous said...

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Theres no point in trying to point out to the English how arrogant they are in presuming that everyone is going to realise that they consider the term "English" to cover the whole of the UK. They are just too thick to get it.

The average Englishman in the home he call his castle slips into his national costume, a shabby raincoat, patented by Chemist Charles Macintosh from Glasgow, Scotland.

En-route to his office he strides along the English lane, surfaced by John Macadam of Ayr, Scotland.

He drives an English car fitted with tyres invented by John Boyd Dunlop, Veterinary Surgeon of Dreghorn, Scotland.

At the office he receives the mail bearing adhesive stamps invented by John Chalmers, Bookseller and Printer of Dundee, Scotland.

During the day he uses the telephone invented by Alexander Graham Bell, born in Edinburgh, Scotland. At home in the evening his daughter pedals her bicycle invented by Kirkpatrick Macmillan, Blacksmith of Thornhill, Dumfriesshire, Scotland.

He watches the news on television, an invention of John Logie Baird of Helensburgh, Scotland, and hears an item about the U.S. Navy founded by John Paul Jones of Kirkbean, Scotland.

Nowhere can an Englishman turn to escape the ingenuity of the Scots.

He has by now been reminded too much of Scotland and in desperation he picks up the Bible, only to find that the first man mentioned in the good book is a Scot, King James VI, who authorized its translation.

He could take to drink but the Scots make the best in the world.

He could take a rifle and end it all, but the breech-loading rifle was invented by Captain Patrick Ferguson of Pitfours, Scotland.

If he escaped death, he could find himself on an operating table injected with penicillin, discovered by Sir Alexander Fleming of Darvel, Scotland, and given chloroform, an anesthetic discovered by Sir James Young Simpson, Obstetrician and Gynecologist of Bathgate, Scotland.

Out of the anesthetic he would find no comfort in learning that he was as safe as the Bank of England founded by William Paterson of Dumfries, Scotland.

Perhaps his only remaining hope would be to get a transfusion of guid Scottish blood which would entitle him to ask:

"Wha's Like Us?"

Anonymous said...

don't be daft 08:52 the English don't drive an English car, the best engineered cars are German. They also don't watch a TV that's anything like the original model, it's much more like the model that was created in the states and is now made better and produced in Japan.

In all fairness the plastics used to make the tyres and raincoat were patented by Alexander Parkes from Birmingham.

The glue on the stamps would never have been possible without the creative use of fish during the 1750's to create a sticky substance which led to more in depth testing.

Beer was created in the stone age so to be fair the Scottish cannot take credit for something that stone age men created when the continents were very differently set up and Scotland didn't even exist.

The Romans invented the road and they did it logically, straight roads from the start to the destination.

Chloroform was only used as an anaesthetic after Simpson and his friends were taking it recreationally (which in those times was common amongst many groups of people). They woke up several hours later having not remembered anything or felt anything as they all fell from their chairs, for this reason he decided it may be good to use it in his work.

Alexander Flemming, although he did discover penicillin he again did so accidentally and though being unhygienic in his methods of testing. The plate would have had to be very old and unclean to start with for that level of growth, it is a common joke that he probably fished it out of the bin because the plates he used were so expensive.

The first Bible written in English was written in Oxford, by an Oxford Professor long before it was so kindly authorised by the Scots. It was the professors aim to get it published in English nation wide, however he died before accomplishing this.

Finally, the blood transfusion you feel someone would then need would be completed using a technique pioneered by James Blundell, an English doctor from London.

I think you need to read a few history books !
The Celts were the original inhabitants of Britain ( immigrants from Western Europe )in 1000BC. When the Romans came most of them were driven westward to what is now called Wales and also to Cornwall. Offas Dyke was built to separate the country and the Normans after the Anglo Saxons took 200 years to conquer Wales. They passed an act of Union in 1536 incorporating Wales with England but the language still survived and is still spoken today. So you see the Welsh language isn't a load of old tosh, it's 1000's of years older than English and is the oldest " living" language. Latin is the only other language that's older but it's classed as a dead langage as no one speaks it.
